How does a new head coach build a program?
Well, it starts with recruiting. If a coach doesn’t get the players he needs to run his system perfectly, things can go south quickly.
Maryland and new head coach Mike Locksley — formerly an assistant under Nick Saban at Alabama — landed its first Class of 2021 recruit when Jayon Venerable committed to the Terrapins:

Venerable, from Severn, Md., is a 5-foot-10 athlete that ranks as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports. Thanks in part to Maryland’s recruiting cookout on Saturday, Venerable was on campus.
According to 247Sports, Venerable is listed as an athlete, but last season in high school, he saw a lot of work at running back. Maryland is now one of seven B1G schools with at least one 2021 commitment (along with Ohio State, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Penn State).
