Maryland is adding a veteran defensive back out of the transfer portal.

The player is Ja’Quan Sheppard, a player who spent 2019-22 as a member of the Cincinnati program under Luke Fickell. Following Fickell’s departure for Wisconsin, Sheppard hit the portal and announced his commitment to Maryland on Sunday.

The 2022 campaign was the most productive one of Sheppard’s career, posting career-high numbers with 50 tackles, 4.5 TFL and 10 pass breakups. Now, he’ll look to boost the Terrapins in 2023.

With 65 career tackles and 4 years of experience, Sheppard stands a shot to make an immediate impact for Maryland. At 6-foot-2, he possesses impressive size for the secondary.
