In December, Purcell transferred from Elon to Duke. After a brief stop in Durham, he decided that Duke would not be his home for the 2023 season, and hit the portal again.
I appreciate the opportunity that Duke University and the Duke football coaches provided me during the winter and spring sessions, but I am officially in the portal looking for a new place to call home this fall. https://t.co/w78D5SWiy1

Purcell spent 6 seasons at FCS program Elon and has NCAA eligibility for a rare 7th season. Despite his lengthy Elon career, Purcell played in just 31 games. He redshirted in 2017, played just 1 game in 2018 and was limited to 3 games in 2021 due to injury.
In 2022, Purcell earned All-CAA second-team recognition. A 12-game starter at center, Purcell helped RB Jalen Hampton become the program’s first 1,000-yard rusher since 2004 while protecting for a passing game that ranked in the top 20 nationally in efficiency and yards per completion.
