Maryland loses key member of special teams unit for rest of 2019 season
Maryland coach Mike Locksley provided an update on injured running back and special teams contributor Jake Funk on Monday, and it wasn’t good. Funk will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL in his left knee.
Locksley called the injury “a huge blow.”
Maryland RB and special teams leader Jake Funk tore his ACL in the same left knee he injured last season and will be out for the season, coach Mike Locksley announced. “A huge blow,” Locksley called it.

Funk has rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns on just 17 attempts and posted four receptions for 16 yards this season, but his impact goes far beyond that. He also returns kicks and plays on special teams coverage. Funk has one kickoff return for 22 yards this year and three solo tackles.
Last season, Funk wasn’t involved much in the offense, but he posted four tackles.
Maryland will host No. 12 Penn State at home Friday night.
