Maryland coach Mike Locksley provided an update on injured running back and special teams contributor Jake Funk on Monday, and it wasn’t good. Funk will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL in his left knee.

Locksley called the injury “a huge blow.”

Funk has rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns on just 17 attempts and posted four receptions for 16 yards this season, but his impact goes far beyond that. He also returns kicks and plays on special teams coverage. Funk has one kickoff return for 22 yards this year and three solo tackles.

Last season, Funk wasn’t involved much in the offense, but he posted four tackles.

Maryland will host No. 12 Penn State at home Friday night.
