Maryland OL Derwin Gray selected in 7th Round of NFL Draft
Maryland offensive lineman Derwin Gray rounded out the group of former Terrapins that heard their name called during the 2019 NFL Draft this weekend.
Saturday evening, Gray was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round, chosen with the 219th pick. He was the fourth Maryland player taken in the draft, joining Darnell Savage (No. 21), Byron Cowart (No. 159) and Ty Johnson (No. 186).
At 6-foot-4, 320 pounds, Gray offers the kind of size NFL teams love to see in their offensive linemen. He’s got a lot of power and is surprisingly quick for his stature. The former Terrapin could be one of the steals of the draft.
Gray started in 25 career games for the Terrapins, including 22 of 24 in his final two seasons with the team. He earned All-B1G honorable mention in each of the last two seasons.
A native of Washington D.C., Gray won’t have to travel too far to start his NFL career.
