Maryland senior guard Eric Ayala is moving on from the college ranks.

Tuesday, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported Ayala has decided to enter his name into the 2022 NBA Draft. He will be hiring an agent, meaning he will forgo his final year of eligibility with the Terrapins.

Because of the NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver for the 2020 season, Ayala could’ve returned for one more season in College Park. Instead, he’s deciding to move on.

Ayala was the second-leading scorer for the Terrapins during the 2021-22 season, averaging 14.7 points per contest. He also posted 4.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.

Ayala was essentially a starter the moment he stepped on campus. Over his four seasons in College Park, the guard appeared in 125 games and made 110 starts. He averaged double-digit point totals in each of his last two years with the Terps.

For his career, Ayala averaged 11.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. He leaves Maryland having scored 1,449 points, collecting 457 boards and dishing out 277 assists.

Maryland ended the 2021-22 season with a 15-17 record.
