Maryland hosted Illinois on Saturday and the Terrapins were favored to win.

They weren’t supposed to score 63, though. The previous high for Maryland in a Big Ten game was in 2016 when the Terrapins hung 50 on Purdue.

That 50 number seems small compared to 63. Sure, Maryland gave up 33 to Illinois, but, come on. You have to give credit where credit is due.

The Terrapins, through the first three quarters of the game, had 4 different 40-plus yard TDs in the game. In the fourth quarter, they got 2 more. Having 6 different huge plays resulting in scores will rack up the points in bunches.

And we saw it in this one.

Maryland QB Kasim Hill threw for 265 yards and 3 TD. As a team, the Terrapins scored 5 times on the ground. Javon Leake, a sophomore running back, had just 5 carries in the game, but 3 of those went for TDs.

Will Maryland score 64 or more in its next game? Not if Michigan State has anything to say about it.
