Much of the 2021-22 season has been a season to forget for Maryland. On Sunday, Fatts Russell provided a performance to remember as the Terrapins upset No. 22 Ohio State.

Russell played out of his mind with a season-high 27 points that included a 6-for-11 shooting performance from behind the arc. One of Russell’s buckets put Maryland up by 15 points late, ensuring there would be no comeback from Ohio State.

Eric Ayala also added 23 points while Donta Scott chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. The three-headed scoring attack of Russell, Ayala and Scott was more than enough to take the Buckeyes.

On the other side of things, a rough shooting night from multiple Buckeyes proved costly for Ohio State. EJ Liddell finished with 11 points and went just 3-for-10 from the floor, including 0-for-5 from 3-point range. Malaki Branham also struggled while shooting 4-for-13 from the field and 1-for-6 from 3-point range.

With the loss, Ohio State falls to 11-6 in conference play and is 2.5 games behind Wisconsin in the B1G standings entering the final week of the season. The Buckeyes do have 3 games during the final week (at home vs. Nebraska, Michigan State and Michigan), but their hopes of earning at least a share of the B1G title are likely done after Sunday’s loss.

Wisconsin, Purdue and Illinois would all need to struggle mightily over the final week in order to open the door for the Buckeyes.
