If any Maryland fans were concerned about star wide receiver Rakim Jarrett leaving the program, they can breathe a sigh of relief.

No, Jarrett has never indicated that he had any interest in departing College Park after his first year with the program, but he denounced any thought of leaving the program on Thursday night. He had a perfect response to a fan suggesting a transfer to Ohio State.

Pro Football Focus recently released its list of the breakout receiver candidates for the 2021 season. Jarrett was on that list after totaling 252 yards and 2 touchdowns on 17 receptions in Maryland’s 2-3 campaign in 2020. One fan tweeted to Jarrett, “Transfer to OSU, [former Maryland WR Stefon] Diggs made the same mistake.”

Jarrett’s response was spot on.

“Diggs is the best WR playing (right now) though,” Jarrett responded.

Diggs enjoyed a great three-year career at Maryland from 2012-14. The former Terrapin caught 150 passes for 2,227 yards and 15 touchdowns, totaling over 500 receiving yards and at least 3 touchdowns every year.

After a solid career in Maryland, Diggs was a fifth-round selection in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. But he’s proven to be a steal of that draft. In 2015, he was named the PFWA All-Rookie Team after tallying 52 receptions for 720 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Last season, in his first year with the Buffalo Bills, Diggs led the NFL in receptions and receiving yards with 127 catches for 1,535 yards. He also had 8 touchdowns, earning himĀ  Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro honors.

Jarrett, a former 5-star prospect, has the potential to be one of the all-time great receivers in Maryland history. And he doesn’t have any plans on leaving College Park.
