Maryland's Matt Canada on honoring late Jordan McNair: 'We as a staff are really proud of our players'
Maryland defeated Texas in Week 1 of the college football season, but some things are bigger than just sports.
Of course, the Terrapins wanted to win that game. But when it came to after the game and preparation for the game itself, the late offensive lineman Jordan McNair, who died of a heatstroke this offseason, was in every player and coach’s mind.
After Maryland secured the upset and beat Texas, Terrapins players waved a flag around with the No. 79 on it, honoring McNair. The team also celebrated in the locker room.
On Tuesday, Maryland interim coach Matt Canada talked about the team and how proud he has been of his players since the tragic death:
One of the best Week 1 sights: @TerpsFootball celebrating with the No. 79 flag.
That was all the players' idea, and it's a great way to remember Jordan McNair. pic.twitter.com/xifSBtn3Pi
