A few weeks ago, a report surfaced that Butch Jones had landed a spot on Mike Locksley’s staff at Maryland. But the newly appointed Terrapins head coach said that’s not entirely true.

Or, it’s not official, anyway.

“I haven’t signed Butch up to a contract just yet,” Locksley said during his media availability for Alabama’s Orange Bowl appearance. Jones, of course, is also still currently a member of the Crimson Tide’s staff.

According to the original reporter, Jones was hired to coach the tight ends and serve as an associate head coach on Locksley’s staff.

Though a deal isn’t done yet, it sounds like Locksley really wants Jones on his staff. He continued to speak highly of the former Tennessee head coach while meeting with reporters.

“Having guys like Butch, if he were to come on board, or any of these guys that have had head coaching experience, I think when you’re bouncing around thoughts, bouncing around ideas, that it’s good to have somebody that’s had the opportunity to be in that position and to help you maybe make the right choices,” Locksley said.
