Mike Locksley came up short in his team’s B1G opener against Michigan last Saturday. The Terps lost 34-27 in Ann Arbor, and also sustained injuries to Taulia Tagovailoa and Rakim Jarrett.

Locksley was not pleased with how his run defense handled Blake Corum. Corum was able to get 243 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns against the Maryland run defense.

“I don’t think any of the three phases from a week ago played well enough for us to win,” said Locksley. “If there’s any disappointment in last week, it’s that Blake Corum had his way with us, rushing for over 200 yards.”

On the other hand, Locksley has been proud of how his defense has been able to be very opportunistic through the first few games. In four games, his team has forced six turnovers and is still riding a lot of momentum.

“The great part about it is that defense has continued to be opportunistic and created some turnovers for us in the last few weeks,” said Locksley.

At the end of the day, Locksley is liking how the team is holding its head up after the tough loss to the Wolverines. Maryland is still 3-1 with a chance to rebound against Michigan State at SECU Stadium at Saturday.

“I like the way that we’re responding to the loss. We’ve still got a lot of work to do. We’re in the developmental stage of our program.”

Maryland and Michigan State kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on FS1.
