Mike Locksley will have a new running backs coach for his Maryland staff heading into the 2023 season.

On Monday, the program announced the hiring of Latrell Scott to the position. Scott brings head coaching experience with him while his most recent stop was at East Carolina coaching tight ends.

Scott’s first head coaching experience came at Richmond during the 2010 season. He also has head coaching stints at Virginia State (2013-14) and Norfolk State (2015-20). Scott’s career record as a head coach is 46-43.

Scott’s other stints as an assistant include Tennessee under Phillip Fulmer and Virginia under Al Groh. He replaces Elijah Brooks at the position for Maryland heading into 2023.

As for Maryland’s RB room, Scott inherits Roman Hemby who is coming off a season with 989 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns and over 1,200 yards from scrimmage.
