MJ Morris reportedly enters transfer portal after spending 1 season with Maryland
MJ Morris has entered the transfer portal after spending 1 season at Maryland, according to a report.
That’s according to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer, who notes that Morris spent the 2024 season as Maryland’s backup QB behind Billy Edwards.
Maryland QB MJ Morris has entered the transfer portal, @chris_hummer and I have learned for @cbssports/@247Sports.
Was Billy Edwards’ backup at Maryland this season. Before Maryland, was at NC State, where he made seven starts.https://t.co/10Sz3YxlzO pic.twitter.com/sh4vNVqJtM

Morris was a big transfer acquisition for the Terps last offseason. He started multiple games for NC State in 2023, but ultimately decided to redshirt that season and transfer after the campaign was over. He landed with Maryland, but then lost the QB competition with Edwards during fall camp.
Even with Edwards transferring to Wisconsin earlier this month, Morris has decided to transfer elsewhere for the 2024 season.
In 3 partial seasons at the collegiate level, Morris has completed 58% of his passes for 1,717 yards, 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He’s averaged 6.6 yards per attempt across 260 total passes.
Because Morris redshirted in 2023, he will have 2 years of eligibility at his next destination.
As for Maryland, it’s unclear what the Terps plan to do at the quarterback position moving forward. They’ve added 1 transfer QB so far this cycle in ex-UCLA quarterback Justyn Martin, but he’s played sparingly to this point in his career. If Maryland doesn’t add another QB through the portal, it does have a couple of internal options in Champ Long and 4-star freshman Malik Washington.
