Olympic legend Michael Phelps delivers incredible preseason message to Maryland

Maryland coach Mike Locksley enlisted one of the state’s most beloved icons for a preseason speech.
Maryland native and Olympic swimming legend Michael Phelps recently gave an inspirational pep talk to Maryland.
Phelps, who holds the overall Olympic record for gold medals, conveyed the importance of hard work and self-belief.
“I didn’t care how hard I had to work to have an opportunity to do something great.”

Maryland can definitely draw some motivation from the massively successful Baltimore local.
Maryland is coming off a 2-3 record in the shortened 2020 campaign and is projected as the nation’s 57th best team, according to Athlon Sports. The Terrapins have not had a winning season since 2014.
Maryland begins the season with a home matchup vs. West Virginia on Sept. 4 (3:30 p.m. EST/ESPN).
