Montgomery was also the head coach at East Carolina from 2016-18. This will be his second stop in the NFL as an assistant coach.

After serving as the wide receivers coach at Duke from 2006-09, Montgomery was named the wide receivers coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he was on staff from 2010-12. That was the last time he was on the sidelines in the NFL, making a return to Duke from 2013-15 as the associate head coach and offensive coordinator before taking the head coaching job at ECU in 2016.

Maryland only played 5 games in  a 9-week schedule during the 2020 season. The Terrapins averaged just 23.6 points per game but did own the B1G’s second-best passing attack statistically, averaging 264 yards per game through the air under Montgomery.

The Terrapins ended the season with a 2-3 record with wins over Minnesota and Penn State.
