Mike Locksley adding former SEC, Pac-12 head coach to staff, per report

Mike Locksley and Maryland are expected to add a former head coach with extensive experience to the coaching staff for the 2023 season.
According to Matt Zenitz with On3 Sports, Mike Locksley and the Terrapins are expected to add Kevin Sumlin to coach tight ends. Jeff Ermann with Inside MD Sports also reports Sumlin will have co-OC duties with the Terps. Sumlin has collegiate head coaching stops at Houston, Texas A&M and Arizona and posted a 95-63 overall record.
Most recently, Sumlin served as the head coach and general manager for the Houston Gamblers in the USFL during the 2022 season. He captured the SEC Coach of the Year Award in 2012 and was a two-time recipient of Coach of the Year in C-USA.
Sumlin played for Purdue during his collegiate career. He also has assistant coaching stops at Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Purdue, Minnesota, Wyoming and Washington State.
