So, it’s the end of an era for the Terrapins. Tagovailoa, the brother of NFL quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, was the Big Ten’s leading passer this season, finishing with 3,377 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
As the turnovers suggest, Tagovailoa had a bit of a turnover problem. However, he wea one of the more accurate QBs in the conference with a 66.4% completion rate. Only Michigan’s JJ McCarthy had better efficiency among B1G starters.
It’s been some time since Tagovailoa was not on the Maryland sideline. The QB has been in college since 2019 and transferred to Maryland in 2020 after a 1-year stint at Alabama.
He exits Maryland having attempted 1,424 passes (955 completions) for 11,256 yards and 76 passing touchdowns. Across that time, Tagovailoa rushed for 201 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Maryland will face Auburn in the Music City Bowl on Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. on ABC.
