Taulia Tagovailoa became the first Maryland quarterback to achieve 8,000 career yards passing on Saturday. During his weekly press conference, Tagovailoa stated that his teammates had just as much to do with the milestone.

Tagovailoa had 260 yards passing with 5 total touchdowns against Towson in the season opener. The QB honestly admitted he didn’t know that he was close to eclipsing the mark.

“Nah I didn’t know that I was, I was surprised by that,” said Tagovailoa. “You know it’s a good feeling and a blessing. Really, it’s all of our record.”

The Terps ended up taking care of business against Towson, winning 38-6. Tagovailoa also ran in for 1 touchdown and had 28 yards rushing.

Maryland is looking to get to at least 6 wins again and return to the postseason for a 3rd straight year under Mike Locksley. Fans looking to get in on the season win total for the Terrapins can take advantage of our special FanDuel Maryland promo code.

Tagovailoa was already leading the program in career passing yards, but this is a special achievement. Other former Terp quarterbacks who are in the top 5 for career passing yards at Maryland include Scott Milanovich, Chris Turner, Boomer Esiason, and C.J. Brown.

It’s great that Tagovailoa knows he couldn’t have done it without his teammates.
