Improving to 2-0, the Maryland Terrapins women’s soccer team traveled to Fairfax, Virginia and dispatched the George Mason Patriots, 2-0, on Sunday.

The Terrapins scored their first goal less than three minutes in, and it came from a young woman with a familiar last name, Kori Locksley, the daughter of head football coach Mike Locksley.

For Locksley, a graduate transfer from the Auburn Tigers, the tally was her first in a Maryland uniform.

In her four years at Auburn, during which she utilized a medical redshirt in 2017, Locksley played in 45 games – starting 16 – scoring four goals and registering the same number of assists.

She is off to a fast start in College Park, as she recorded an assist in the 3-0 season-opening victory over the Temple Owls on August 19.

Looking to keep their record free of losses, the Terrapins will return home to Ludwig Field to battle the Richmond Spiders on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. ET.

For Kori’s father, he is entering the third year of his stint with the program. After a 3-9 debut campaign in 2019, Maryland went 2-3 in the abbreviated 2020 season, picking up wins over Minnesota and Penn State.

Locksley’s 2021 squad will begin their season on September 4 by hosting the West Virginia Mountaineers at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
