2022 NFL Draft: Detroit Lions reportedly made NFL angry with swift selection of Aidan Hutchinson
How can you make the NFL angry? By making your NFL Draft picks too fast, apparently.
During last week’s draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars took Travon Walker No. 1 overall which left Aidan Hutchinson on the board for the Detroit Lions. The Lions wasted no time in taking the homegrown prospect, announcing their selection to the league in less than a minute.
Just how fast was that pick? So fast the NFL was upset at the Lions for the speed.
“We turned the card in so fast the league got mad at us,” one Lions official revealed, per Peter King with NBC Sports.
It turned out to be the second time in as many drafts that Detroit has been in hot water over quick picks. A similar scenario unfolded in 2021 after the Lions selected Penei Sewell No. 7 overall.
The #Lions apparently made the league mad in back-to-back drafts for picking too quickly.

For much of the draft process, Hutchinson was considered the top prospect available. After staying in-state for college and turning into an All-American and Heisman finalist, it is no surprise Detroit was ecstatic and eager to get the pick into the NFL.
