247Sports.com just released its top 10 quarterback battles for the 2022 season and the B1G is right at the top. It pits Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy against Cade McNamara.

The experience edge might go to McNamara, who started 14 games under center for the Wolverines last season. McNamara threw for 2,576 yards and 15 touchdowns while helping Michigan to 12 wins and a B1G Championship as well as a spot in the College Football Playoff.

McCarthy could be the future in Ann Arbor. The former 5-star quarterback is said to have the higher upside. McCarthy appeared in 11 games as a freshman; passing for 516 yards and 5 touchdowns.

It is worth noting that McNamara was present at Big Ten Media Days. That might give him a slight edge…for now.

It should be interesting how this competition plays out as we begin the season. Michigan opens with home dates against Colorado State, Hawaii, UConn and Maryland.

Their first road game is not until Oct. 1 against Iowa. Michigan could very well be 4-0 with either quarterback before its date with the Hawkeyes. That game might identify who the starter will be for the rest of the season.

So who is it going to be? McNamara or McCarthy?
