All you need is a quick look at Friday night’s stat sheet to see why fans at Michigan are so excited to welcome J.J. McCarthy to Ann Arbor. The 5-star commit had an outstanding season-opening performance with the IMG Academy.

In a nationally-televised game on ESPNU on Friday night, McCarthy balled out. He completed 23-of-27 pass attempts for 333 yards and 5 touchdowns, leading IMG to a 49-13 victory over Venice (Florida). For his efforts, he was named the GEICO Player of the Game.

Below are a few clips from McCarthy’s big night:

McCarthy, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound gunslinger is ranked as the No. 2 pro-style quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class, and the No. 16 overall prospect. He’s been committed to Michigan for quite some time now, giving his verbal pledge in May 2019.

Currently, Michigan’s 2021 class ranks 9th nationally and 2nd in the B1G.

While the Wolverines won’t be in action this fall, it should be fun to keep an eye on McCarthy at the IMG Academy throughout the season. Especially if he keeps up these kind of performances.
