In the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game against Northwestern, Shea Patterson had an opportunity to be the guy for Michigan. It was his opportunity to prove he could be the quarterback the Wolverines have desperately needed.

He delivered.

Patterson didn’t throw a game-winning touchdown pass or make a heroic scramble for the end zone, but he complete all three of his passing attempts on the final drive, scampered for eight yards on a 3rd-and-6, and guided the Michigan offense to a game-winning touchdown, giving his team a 20-17 advantage late in the contest.

As if that huge drive didn’t have Michigan fans swooning enough, Patterson made comments that everyone loves to hear from a quarterback. You know, that he loves playing in those critical situations.

“I love when the moment’s big. Even when I fail, I love that situation because you have to fail to succeed,” Patterson said, according to The Detroit News. “I just love the process. I wouldn’t want to fail or succeed with anybody else but my teammates right there in the locker room.”

Patterson has continued to improve each and every week this season. Though he hasn’t put up spectacular numbers, he’s been a critical factor in Michigan’s offense this season.

Patterson finished Saturday’s game completing 15-of-24 passes for 196 yards and added 31 yards on the ground. The Wolverines are now 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in B1G play.
