AJ Henning is staying in the Big Ten.

Henning announced his commitment to Northwestern on Thursday afternoon. He’s an Illinois native, meaning this is a homecoming of sorts for the former Wolverine.

Here’s his announcement:

Henning was a member of Michigan’s 2020 recruiting class. He played for Michigan for 3 seasons before deciding to enter the transfer portal last month.

Henning never carved out a consistent role in Michigan’s offense. For his career, he caught 25 passes for 198 yards. He did score 2 rushing touchdowns in his career, both of which came in 2021.

He was more impactful on special teams as he finished 2021 and 2022 with more than 200 punt return yards. In his career at Michigan, he returned 57 punts for 475 yards and 1 touchdown.

Henning was a 4-star prospect in the class of 2020. He finished that cycle as the No. 137 overall player and the No. 23 receiver in the nation, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Henning becomes the 3rd transfer to join Northwestern so far this offseason.
