Alabama’s Devonta Smith went off against Notre Dame, winning Rose Bowl Offensive MVP honors in helping to lead the Crimson Tide to a big win.
In Friday’s College Football Playoff Semifinal, Smith had seven catches for 130 yards, hooking up with quarterback Mac Jones time and time again against the Fighting Irish defense. Along with his big yardage number, Smith scored three touchdowns, tying a Rose Bowl record:

Smith’s third touchdown of the game put him in impressive company, tying the Rose Bowl record for receiving touchdowns in a game held by USC’s Deontay Burnett (2017) and Michigan’s Braylon Edwards (2005).
In 2005, Edwards finished with 10 catches for 109 yards and three touchdowns for the Wolverines. Unfortunately, his performance came in a losing effort as Texas QB Vince Young led the Longhorns to a comeback victory, 38-37.
For Alabama’s Smith, he is hoping to be the first WR to win the Heisman Trophy since Michigan’s Desmond Howard in 1991.
