Michigan is getting a great, late addition to its 2021 recruiting class.

Wednesday afternoon, the Wolverines received a pledge from 4-star defensive tackle George Rooks. He held offers from several big-time programs, including Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Georgia and others.

Rooks made the announcement with a post on Twitter. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound lineman makes his decision with just one week until National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 3.

According to 247Sports, Rooks ranks as the No. 19 defensive tackle in the 2021 recruiting class. The New Jersey native is also listed as the No. 4 prospect out of his home state and ranks No. 263 nationally, regardless of position.

Rooks posted monster numbers during his 2019 season at the high school level. He is credited with 71 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks on a team that finished the year with an 11-1 record. Rooks is also the son of former Syracuse defensive lineman George Rooks.

Rooks is currently the only hard commit who has not signed with Michigan, with most other recruits signing during the Early Signing Period in December. He’s the 21st player to join a Wolverines class that ranks 2nd in the B1G (behind Ohio State) and 13th nationally.
