Blake Corum confident in Michigan's RB room, sees 'a whole bunch of lightning'
The offense for Michigan had a big breakout season in 2021, largely due to the emergence of the rushing offense led by Hasaan Haskins and Blake Corum. Despite Haskins being gone, Corum is confident the rushing offense can be highly efficient this upcoming season.
“I feel like the game has to go on. Obviously, we’re gonna miss Hassan, who was a big part of our offense. But we’re gonna pick it up right where we left off,” Corum said after practice in a report from 247Sports’ Alejandro Zuniga.
Michigan had the 15th best rushing offense last season, averaging 214.4 rushing yards per game.
Corum feels that the depth and talent of the running back group will help replicate that same success as last season. Corum and sophomore Donovan Edwards are the two returning leaders from last season.
Redshirt freshman Tavierre Dunlap is projected to have more of an impact this season. Michigan could also play true freshman and former 3-star running back in the 2022 recruiting class in CJ Stokes early.
“I feel like we all have one-of-a-kind when it comes to our skills,” Corum said of the running backs. “We also, like Donovan and myself — last year, you said thunder and lightning — is lightning and lightning now. You know what I’m saying? That’s what I feel like. Tavi, he brings a little bit of thunder, but Tavi isn’t slow. And CJ is fast too. So it’s just a whole bunch of lightning.”
“Donovan is gonna come in. He’s gonna get more reps now. Tavi, he’s ready. CJ is ready, like I said. So we’re picking up right where we left off. We still have, in my opinion, the best O-line in the country. And so like I said, we’re picking up right where we left off.”
