Blake Corum and the Michigan offense found a bit of balance in the B1G opener against Rutgers.

During a 31-7 win, Corum rushed for 97 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Wolverines put away a sluggish start to cruise in the fourth quarter. As a team, Michigan hit 201 rushing yards with 5 yards per carry.

By contrast, the Scarlet Knights had just 77 yards rushing with 3.3 yards per carry. Rutgers also finished 3-for-10 on 3rd down with Michigan stifling things on defense.

After the game, Corum and Junior Colson were asked about going up against another team that tries to pride itself on smashmouth football. Corum said the Wolverines “bully bullies” and noted Rutgers takes pride in “thinking they’re the bullies.”

Colson noted there can’t be two smashmouth teams and also said the Wolverines were doing the style first.

Regardless of the styles involved, Michigan has now won 9 straight over Rutgers under Jim Harbaugh with back-to-back blowouts.
