The men’s college basketball season is about a month old. That means there’s now a large enough sample size for media outlets to start ranking the best to the worst in the B1G.

This season at the B1G Network, former Purdue star Robbie Hummel will be ranking the men’s basketball teams in the conference each week. On Wednesday, Hummel released his first rankings with No. 4 Michigan on top.

Ohio State, Maryland and then Michigan State followed at No. 2, 3 and 4, respectively. All four of those teams are ranked inside the Top 11 of the AP Top 25 this week.

Here’s Hummel’s full power rankings:

Maryland has been inside the Top 10 in the AP poll all season, so it’s probably a little surprising to some to see the Terrapins not on top of the first B1G rankings, but Michigan rose from unranked to begin the season to No. 4 this week.

The Wolverines just lost their first game, though, on Tuesday to No. 1 Louisville, 58-43, as part of the B1G/ACC Challenge. Maryland will play Notre Dame as part of the same challenge on Wednesday.

The Terrapins sit at 8-0 while Michigan is 7-1. Ohio State is also undefeated at 7-0 but will face No. 7 North Carolina in the B1G/ACC Challenge on Wednesday. Michigan State lost its third game of the season with a 87-75 defeat to No. 10 Duke as part of the challenge on Tuesday.

Michigan State is 5-3 to begin the season.
