Winning a rivalry game is one thing, but dominating a team you despise is a completely different feeling. Michigan got to experience that this weekend with a performance for the ages.

Michigan registered a 44-10 win over Michigan State on Saturday, one of the more convincing wins in the in-state rivalry’s history. Not only did the Wolverines get a 34-point victory to get their second-straight win in the series, they did a lot of things no Michigan team has ever done to a Mark Dantonio-coached Spartans squad.

According to Big Ten Network, Michigan set new series highs against Dantonio’s defense on Saturday. Those items included:

  • Most points: 44
  • Most total yards: 467
  • Most yards per play: 7.0
  • Most passing yards: 384
  • Most passing TDs: 4
  • Most 1st downs: 25

That’s a lost of “mosts” for the Michigan offense, especially considering how poorly that group started the season. Now, they’re really clicking and it came together in the rivalry game on Saturday.

It’ll be a game in the Paul Bunyan series that Jim Harbaugh will remember for a long time. It’ll also be one Dantonio wants to forget as quickly as possible.
