Chad Carr fought until the very end. But that unfortunate end came far too soon.

The grandson of former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr died on Monday morning, ending his battle with an inoperable brain tumor.

Tammi Carr, the mother of Chad, tweeted this photo:

Chad Carr’s story gained a national following after he was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Giloma (DIPG) last year.

News of the boy’s incurable tumor spread to the Michigan and Michigan State football programs, and both schools’ bands formed the words #ChadTough on Spartan Stadium’s field following their 2014 game.

Following the news that Chad was in hospice care on Nov. 11, the Michigan and Ohio State basketball programs teamed up to decorate the family’s home for Christmas.

In their next game against Indiana, Michigan players all had the words “#ChadTough” written on the back of their helmets.

As recently as this past weekend, Michigan State and Ohio State honored Chad Carr by wearing decals on their helmets that read “#ChadTough.”

The family created a foundation in his name to raise money for pediatric brain tumor awareness and research. Tammi and the Michigan family will continue to support the efforts to find a cure.
