We’re in the midst of a 14-day stretch where all the talk is focused on Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State battling on the football field. Each is fighting for the B1G East title and possibly a spot in the College Football Playoff.

But rivalries aside, they’ll be representing the same worthy cause. When Michigan State and Ohio State square off on Saturday, both will be wearing #ChadToughFDN decals on their helmets (H/T The Detroit News).

Chad Carr is the 5-year old son of Tammi and Jason Carr, a former quarterback at Michigan. Chad’s grandpa, Lloyd Carr, was the long-time Michigan football coach. Chad is currently fighting for his life because a brain tumor recently put him in hospice care.

Following the Facebook update last week from Tammi Carr, Michigan players wrote #ChadTough on the backs of their helmets before the game against Indiana.

The Carr’s even had Michigan captains Joe Bolden and Joe Kerridge show up at the house to give Chad the game ball from the team’s double-overtime victory.

Right after his fourth birthday last year, when Chad was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), the Michigan and Michigan State marching bands paid a touching tribute following their gameto form #ChadTough on Spartan Stadium Field.

The football programs weren’t the only ones that helped out. According to The Detroit News, the Michigan and Ohio State basketball programs united to decorate the Carr’s home for Christmas.

“They came together to do this for Chad,” Tammi posted on Facebook with a photo of the decorated home. “Amazing!!!! Bigger than the rivalry!!”

It just goes to show that some things are bigger than even the most heated rivalries.
