There was plenty of heat on Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh heading into the 2020 season as his contract is set to expire following 2021 and he hadn’t quite lived up to expectations in Ann Arbor.

Through four games in 2020, that heat is now a full-blown firestorm as Michigan sits at 1-3 after being blown out by a historic margin at home against Wisconsin on Saturday.

The struggles mean we are in full-on Harbaugh replacement speculation. People from all angles are taking a stab at guessing Harbaugh’s replacement. The latest is the Yahoo! Sports College Podcast with Dan Wetzel, Pete Thamel, and Pat Forde.

The first name mentioned is Urban Meyer. The crew specifically points out that Michigan landing the former Ohio State and Florida coach is a long shot. As they say, he might be the best coach out there, but it’s unrealistic.

Plus, it doesn’t appear Meyer has much of an affinity for the Wolverines as he owns a bar that features the fact he went 7-0 against Michigan.

The name that is likely to come up for any big-time jobs at this point is Luke Fickell. He seems like the ideal candidate as the Cincinnati coach. There’s one problem: He’s as much of a Buckeye lover as Meyer. He was an assistant under Jim Tressel and served as interim head coach in 2011. While it would be a great step up for Fickell, it seems like a hard choice for him to abandon his alma mater like that.

This seems like a basic set of names, and there has to be a lot more to think about. And with a job with the prestige of Michigan, it seems like just about anything is on the table at this point.
