Chase Winovich doesn’t lack any confidence. Michigan’s senior defensive lineman knows how good his team is playing right now.

The Wolverines are winners of eight straight, own an 8-1 record and are the only team in the B1G with an unblemished record in conference play (6-0). And after a 42-7 drubbing of Penn State, it’s becoming even clearer that Michigan is the best team in the league.

Even Winovich knows it.

Following the blowout win, Winovich met with the media. He wasn’t reserved in his comments, saying he believes that Michigan is the top team in the conference.

“We’re the team to beat in the B1G,” Winovich said, according to Dan Murphy of ESPN. “That’s not a controversial statement. I think that’s a fact at this point.”

Michigan has now won three straight games over a ranked conference foe. They defeated Wisconsin, Michigan State and now Penn State in that month-long window.

The only loss was a 24-17 defeat at the hands of No. 4 Notre Dame in the season opener.

Winovich is right, Michigan appears to be the team to beat in the B1G. It’s also one of the best teams in the nation, and has played that way over the last month.

We’ll see if Saturday’s victory is enough to propel the fifth-ranked Wolverines into the top four of the College Football Playoff rankings next week.
