Colston Loveland is not going to be able to suit up for Saturday’s marquee matchup in the Big Ten.

The star tight end for Michigan was injured during a Week 3 showdown against Arkansas State. After originally being dinged up in the first half, Loveland tried to re-enter the game after halftime but was quickly taken to the locker room and later ruled out.

Now, Michigan confirmed via its weekly availability report that Loveland is officially out for the matchup against USC. While he is the most notable name on the report, quarterback Jack Tuttle and linebacker Jimmy Rolder appeared as questionable vs. the Trojans.

Loveland has been Michigan’s leading receiver and arguably the best player on the entire offense so far this season. His absence puts a major damper on the odds of the Wolverines entering Saturday’s matchup vs. the Trojans, especially considering the outlook at quarterback.

Michigan is making a change after Davis Warren has thrown 6 interceptions in the first 3 games of the season. It has led to a disastrous turnover differential so far this season, and Alex Orji will start on Saturday.

Without Loveland available, it’s likely Michigan will lean heavily on the ground game with Orji’s ability as a ball carrier and the work of Donovan Edwards and Kalel Mullings.
