Demetrius Calip, member of 1989 Michigan championship team, dies at 53
Demetrius Calip, a member of the 1989 Michigan basketball national championship team, has passed away at the age of 53, his son told 247Sports.
Calip, a native of Flint, Michigan, came off the bench for the Wolverines in 1989, but led the team in scoring 2 years later in 1991. Calip starred in 3 movies as an actor following a brief stint in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers.
“He was the perfect example of a great Dad and I can only be grateful and happy,” his son, Calip II shared Monday on Instagram. “… He did EXACTLY what he was supposed to do in terms of a father.”
