Desmond Howard, Pete Thamel and the rest of the ESPN College GameDay crew are in Ann Arbor ahead of The Game between Ohio State and Michigan. As a part of the pre-game show, Thamel delivered one of his traditional Saturday morning reports but with a twist.

Traditionally, Thamel reports from near the GameDay crowd on Saturday mornings, but he was reporting from inside Michigan Stadium from Rivalry Week. That move was apparently to avoid any potential situation stemming from the Michigan crowd and some tense reactions to Thamel’s prior reporting on the sign-stealing investigation, something alluded to by Rece Davis.

However, Howard was not a fan of the move, deciding to call out Thamel for avoiding the fans.

“What are we, Week 13 now? We’ve been doing this 12-13 weeks now, he’s always been in the crowd doing his reports. I’m like what the hell is Pete in the stadium for? That cat just threw me all off, put your big boy pants on and do it from the crowd like you usually do it,” criticized Howard. “I thought he’d be out here.”

“He’s got the lunatic fringe, so we’re just taking care of him, that’s all,” cautioned Davis.

“These are nice fans!” Howard exclaimed.

“Only takes one,” Davis countered.
