Donovan Edwards is not done yet, confirming on Monday he’ll return to Michigan for another season!

This past season, Edwards delivered 5 rushing touchdowns and 497 rushing yards while backing up Blake Corum in the backfield. After struggling to get rolling for much of the season, Edwards delivered his first 100-yard game of the season with 2 early touchdowns in the win over Washington.

Now, he will get his turn as the featured back in Ann Arbor with Corum off to the NFL:

While Edwards struggled to get rolling this season, there’s no denying his talent level. He finished the 2022 season with over 1,100 yards of offense and 9 total touchdowns. Edwards’ highlights in 2022 consisted of a career-high 216 yards against Ohio State, followed up by 185 yards in the B1G Championship against Purdue.

Impact of Edwards’ decision

The decision to come back makes a lot of sense for Edwards. Though he shined without Corum in the lineup after a season-ending injury in 2022, Edwards has not had a chance to show what he can do in a full season with the featured role. Coming back to Michigan for another season allows Edwards to firmly boost his NFL Draft stock and show what he can do as a true No. 1 option.

Overall, Edwards’ skill set should serve him well both in the offense next season and as a prospect for the NFL Draft. Edwards has rushed for over 1,600 yards and 15 touchdowns, but he is widely regarded as one of the best receivers in the program. He has 68 career catches for 714 yards and 3 touchdowns as a versatile NFL-style running back.
