What’s stopping No. 4 Michigan from making the College Football Playoff?
Sure, some crazy scenarios could play out that would eliminate the Wolverines, but the easiest would be to simply lose another game.
At 9-1, Michigan is looking good and has the committee’s attention with its resume. However, a game on Nov. 24 at Ohio State looms and the Wolverines last won at Ohio Stadium in 2000.
That’s their biggest hurdle, without question.
ESPN’s Chris Fowler says that he believes in Michigan, but understands that winning at Ohio State isn’t going to be automatic. Fowler talked with Paul Finebaum on Wednesday, and after talking up the Wolverines and how good they’ve looked with Shea Patterson leading the offense, he talked about Michigan in big games:
“Michigan is a team that I really like at this point,” Fowler said. “I’d favor them to win in Columbus if they can just get out of their own way. I think that there’s a certain pucker factor, to use a rude expression, that has inhibited Michigan in some big moments.
“If they handle their business, they’re playing much better football than Ohio State is. They’re a much more complete team. They should win in Columbus. They should win the Big Ten title, and that should put them in the playoff.”
That’s certainly an interesting way to describe Michigan in big moments, but, it’s understandable. This season has been a revenge tour for the Wolverines, however, and the cherry on top would be knocking off the Buckeyes in their own backyard.
