ESPN’s FPI is an interesting rating system that takes inventory of every team in college football and updates the rankings on a weekly basis. For Michigan, it has not been a pretty couple of weeks in terms of the FPI despite the team continuing to win games.

Last week, the Football Power Index dropped the Wolverines 3 spots to No. 10. That drop came in spite of a 35-7 win over UNLV.

Now, after a 31-6 win over Bowling Green, Michigan is once again being dropped. The FPI dropped the Wolverines out of the top 10 altogether and all the way to No. 14 in the rankings. For comparison, that puts Jim Harbaugh’s program just ahead of Miami and Syracuse of the ACC while Ole Miss, Notre Dame and Washington are the teams immediately ahead of Michigan.

Michigan still remains the betting favorite to win the conference in regard to the Big Ten Championship odds with Ohio State and Penn State trailing the Wolverines. Fans hoping to get in on that action can use our unique Michigan sports betting promo code.

Despite the odds, the Wolverines are not the favorites for a number of systems. ESPN’s SP+ has elevated Ohio State to the top spot through 3 weeks, and the Buckeyes also have the top spot on the FPI.

In regard to the FPI, Penn State continues to climb the list and is now No. 6 overall with the second-best chance to win the B1G per the system. We’ll see how it shakes out with Harbaugh returning to the sidelines, but it is an interesting trend for Michigan in spite of a 3-0 start.
