ESPN's FPI predicts Michigan's Week 3 matchup vs. Arkansas State
Michigan will be looking to bounce back after being dismantled at home by the Texas Longhorns on Saturday. Texas dominated the game from start to finish en route to the 31-12 victory.
ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) makes the Wolverines a huge favorite in the game against Arkansas State. Per the model, Michigan has a 92.4% chance of defeating Arkansas State in the Big House this weekend. That means the odds for the Red Wolves to pull the upset is 7.6%.
The market more-or-less agrees with FPI’s projection. Per DraftKings, Michigan is currently a 24.5-point favorite at home.
The Wolverines are the defending national champions, but this is a completely different team. Even in the win in Week 1, Michigan struggled to do a ton of things on the offensive end.
After being such a dominant rushing team last year, the Wolverines only rushed for 82 yards in the game against Texas. Last year, Michigan was at least able to throw the ball with JJ McCarthy, so teams had to put a safety deeper, compared to this year where the Wolverines opponents have loaded the box.
The Red Wolves are off to a 2-0 start on the season, winning their first 2 games against Central Arkansas and Tulsa by a total of 7 points. Quarterback Jaylen Raynor is a dual-threat player, as he has thrown for 572 yards while rushing for 122 yards.
