ESPN's FPI updates Michigan's chances to win B1G following win over Spartans
Michigan cleared yet another hurdle in Week 8.
The Wolverines rolled into Spartan Stadium Saturday and proved to be too much for their in-state rivals. Michigan held the Spartans under 100 yards of total offense in a dominating defensive performance for its seventh consecutive win this season.
Saturday’s win, along with Ohio State’s loss to Purdue, dramatically shifted the outlook for the B1G East race and the conference race as a whole. Nothing is a given in college football, but Michigan definitely is making strides towards a potential B1G Championship Game appearance under Jim Harbaugh.
According to ESPN’s FPI, the Wolverines now have a 47% chance to win the conference. They also now have better odds than Ohio State as the Buckeyes currently sit at 25.9% chance to win the B1G.
There still is reason to be cautious moving forward. The FPI gives the Wolverines just a 47.1% chance to take down Ohio State in the final game of the season. However, it would seem unwise to bet against Michigan right now.
