A bet is a bet. John Beilein lived up to his agreement.

Thursday night, Villanova ended Michigan’s season in the Sweet 16 with a 63-55 victory in the South Region. As a No. 11 seed, the Wolverines had a strong run to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament — defeating No. 6 Colorado State and No. 3 Tennessee — but they didn’t have enough to get to the Elite 8.

Beilein appeared to have a bet with former Villanova star and current Detroit Piston Saddiq Bey. And because Michigan was on the wrong end, the former Michigan head coach was spotted wearing some Wildcats garb.

“This was a painful few minutes but a bet is a bet. Saddiq would (have) done the same at (Michigan) won,” Beilein wrote on Twitter in a Villanova sweatshirt.

Michigan snuck into this year’s NCAA Tournament and was able to crank out a pair of victories. The Wolverines were one of two B1G teams to advance to the Sweet 16, along with Purdue. Both lost.

Beilein was the head coach at Michigan from 2007-19. During his time in Ann Arbor, the Wolverines compiled a 278-150 record with 9 NCAA Tournament appearances in 12 years. Michigan also won two B1G regular season titles, two B1G Tournament titles and advanced to the National Championship Game twice.

Juwan Howard took over in 2019. The NCAA Tournament was canceled after his first season, but in his second year, he led the Wolverines to a B1G regular season crown and an Elite 8 berth.
