Former Michigan linebacker Devin Gil entered his name in the transfer portal a little over a month ago. Now, he’s decided that he’ll be returning closer to his hometown to complete his college football career.

Gil announced on Tuesday afternoon that he will be finishing his collegiate career at USF. As a graduate transfer, he’ll be immediately eligible to play during the 2020 season and will have one year of eligibility remaining. Gil is a native of Hollywood, Florida.

“After discussing this major decision with my family I have decided to complete my 5th year at the University of South Florida,” Gil wrote on Twitter.

Gil was a three-star member of Michigan’s 2016 recruiting class and was a safety as a high school prospect. He made the transition to linebacker when he arrived in Ann Arbor.

In four years at Michigan, Gil appeared in 39 career games, all coming in the last three seasons with the Wolverines after using his first year with the program as a redshirt season. He leaves UM with 47 career tackles, including four for loss, 1.5 sacks and a fumble recovery.

USF finishing the 2019 season with a 4-8 record and fired head coach Charlie Strong following the season. Jeff Scott will be entering his first season as the head coach of the Bulls in 2020.
