Former Michigan star Brandon Graham activated in time for Super Bowl 59
Former Michigan standout Brandon Graham will officially have a chance to impact Sunday’s Super Bowl after being activated from injured reserve by the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday.
It looked like the veteran defensive end’s season and maybe even career might be over after Graham tore his triceps in the Eagles’ victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Nov. 24. He was immediately put on IR after playing in 11 regular-season games (with 1 start) and recording 3.5 sacks, 20 tackles and 7 quarterback hits.

The 36-year-old was already mulling retirement at the end of this season, and the injury seemed to be the beginning of the end for the first-team All-Big Ten and first-team All-American at Michigan in 2009. But with Philadelphia extending its season as far as possible, it gave Graham a fighting chance to at least try to return for the Super Bowl.
Graham’s final test came this week during practices in New Orleans leading up to Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Graham was a full participant in the Eagles’ final practice on Friday, and now 1 day later Graham’s long road back to recovery is complete.
In addition to being a Michigan legend, Graham became an instant legend in Philadelphia after his strip of Tom Brady late in Super Bowl 52 helped carry the Eagles past the New England Patriots. The play led to a field goal, which gave Philadelphia a little breathing room in a 41-33 victory for its first Super Bowl title.
Now, Graham will have a chance to play for a second ring on Sunday.
