Freshman WR gives his take on Michigan's 'most gifted offensive weapon'
Michigan lost leading rusher Hassan Haskins to the NFL after an impressive 2021. However, the Wolverines still have a host of talent on the offensive side of the ball.
Under center, Michigan has two talented pieces with Cade McNamara and J.J. McCarthy. Who takes the lead role in 2022 remains to be seen but both are viable.
Other pieces back in 2022 include strong RB Blake Corum, WRs Ronnie Bell and Andrel Anthony and TE Erick All. So, who is the best offensive piece for the Wolverines?
Well, according to freshman receiver Darrius Clemons, the most gifted player is running back Donovan Edwards. In a recent interview, Clemons pointed to Edwards’ natural ability working at receiver along with his ability to be a productive rusher.
“What Donovan does at receiver, you can’t teach that. It’s just like, it’s crazy,” Clemons said according to Alejandro Zuniga with The Michigan Insider. Asked whether Edwards works with both position coaches, Clemons replied:
“You never see him working on it, and then he gets out there, and he looks better than some of us, you know? He might be the most gifted offensive weapon we have on our team.”
Edwards is definitely a unique tool for the Wolverines. During the 2021 season, he had 20 catches for 265 yards and a touchdown while averaging 5 yards per carry with 3 rushing touchdowns. Edwards also threw a touchdown on a trick play for the offense.
No matter how he is utilized, Edwards stands to make an impact in 2022.
