Jim Harbaugh isn’t entirely consumed with completely shutting down Wisconsin star running back Jonathan Taylor. He understands how hard it is to defend such a skilled player with Taylor’s ability.

Harbaugh said as much during his weekly press conference on Monday, saying it’s “unrealistic” to think you’ll be able to completely shut down the Badger back. That doesn’t mean, though, that the Wolverines won’t try to limit what he does on Saturday.

In an interview with WXYZ’s Brad Galli, Harbaugh said the focus is to try to slow Taylor down on Saturday and limit the damage he causes to the Michigan defense.

“He’s that good of a player, there’s no question about it. You’re right, you can’t be all consumed with him, but you have to be pretty darn consumed with him,” Harbaugh said. “You hope to slow him down, limit him. He’s going to make some plays, but hopefully we can contain him enough and get stops and get the ball back.”

Believe it or not, Michigan has actually done a solid job at defending Taylor over the last two years. Last season, he accumulated just 101 yards on 17 carries, his second-lowest total of the season. The year before, he had 132 yards.

Taylor has not scored a touchdown against Michigan in two seasons.

Both Wisconsin and Michigan enter Saturday’s game at 2-0 and will be opening their B1G season.
