Nebraska’s trip to Ann Arbor on Saturday wasn’t Scott Frost’s first trip to Michigan Stadium. Two years ago, the head coach took his UCF team into the Big House to battle one of the better Wolverine teams in recent memory.

It was the first time Frost was embarrassed by Michigan. The Wolverines clobbered an overmatched UCF team 51-14. But Frost had an interesting comment after that game. One that has stuck with some of the current Michigan defenders.

“It’s hard to say when the score is what it is, but we came in here and outhit those guys today,” Frost said after the 2016 matchup between UCF and Michigan. “Standing on the sideline, there was no doubt who was hitting harder.”

That season, Michigan owned one of the nation’s toughest defense and was a contender in the B1G and battled for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Saturday, Frost made his return trip to Ann Arbor, only with a different team. But several Michigan players remembered that statement from 2016. One of those players was Grant Newsome, who mocked Frost on Twitter after the Wolverines clobbered the Huskers 56-10.

“Did we get out-hit though?” Newsome wrote.

I don’t think Frost would say that this year. Not after that performance.

After the game, Michigan defensive end Chase Winovich even said that he believed Nebraska didn’t want to be on the field with the Wolverines. As early as the first quarter, Winovich said, the Huskers showed no hunger.

It’s funny what players remember. And even though Frost is with a different team, Michigan kept his words close to heart.

And the Wolverines took it out on Nebraska on Saturday afternoon.
