Greg McElroy believes Jim Harbaugh’s move to the NFL is imminent and said as much on Friday morning on WJOX in Birmingham, Alabama. Speaking with author and Michigan insider John U. Bacon, McElroy said he believes it’s all but finished with dotting i’s and crossing t’s.

“I think it’s coming,” McElroy said. “Knowing him and knowing how quirky he is, he did what came to do and he deserves immense credit for what he accomplished, it’s amazing what they were able to do in the last 3 years frankly. Not just the last 12 months.”

McElroy asked Bacon if it’s an “inevitability” that offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore, who was the interim during Harbaugh’s suspensions, gets the head coaching job?

Bacon added that he doesn’t think Michigan fans would begrudge Harbaugh going back to the NFL. Because Michigan beat Ohio State 3 times, won the Big Ten 3 times and the national championship was frankly unexpected, he said.

“Sherrone Moore will be named the head coach if Harbaugh decides to go in about 3 to 4 nanoseconds,” Bacon said. “There’ll be no search, that’s a done deal. And in Michigan’s case, since they’re more on culture than talent, that makes sense to get a guy like that because he gets the culture, he is the culture. Players love and respect him.”
